Headlines and pub news in brief
|
The Pipers Arms in Old Town has been bought by a local
business and will re-open on Friday 15 August. Great news. We wish them
every success and will be checking out the real ale soon.
|
The Fox and Hounds in Uffington is having a beer festival
on the bank holiday weekend 22 - 25 August
(pub website).
There will be about ten real
ales. Live bands will be playing on Sunday and Monday - a Hog roast will
be available on Sunday. This sounds all very mouth-watering. The Uffington
Country show is taking place at the same time, so it is possible to have a
family day out!
|
The Steam Railway in Old Town beer festival was so successful
that plans are afoot to hold another one in August! We will keep you posted as
soon as more news comes in.
|
The Famous Ale House in Redcliffe Street, Swindon has been
closed since June 2008. No further details available.
|
The New Inn at Winterbourne Monkton
is not just a B+B any more. They are serving real ale again. Above all,
it is open as a pub again. Let's hope it will become a lively local again.
There is a survey in the pub database, which can be accessed below.
There will also be an article in the next issue of The Tun.

Local pub database
We have got an online beer and pub guide for this branch. It contains
289 pubs, bars and hotels; around 32 of these do not exist any more;
they are in the database for historical reasons.
About 55 of our pubs don't serve real ale and nine are currently closed.
This leaves about 200 pubs that probably serve real ale.
We try to visit every pub as often as we can.
Have a look at Swindon Area Beer
& Pub Guide.
Please help us to keep it up to date by completing a pub survey when you visit
a pub in the area. If there has been no change to the pub, just let us know - no need for a survey.
You can print or download the form as a pdf file.
Pub Survey Form.pdf (10kb).
Here are the pubs that have not had a survey for three years:
Parklands Hotel, Ogbourne St George, Marlborough
These pubs below need a survey in the next few months.
Royal Oak, 35 North Street, Pewsey
Red Lion, Ermin Street, Baydon
Riffs Bar, 26 Greatfield, Swindon
White Hart, High Street, Burbage
Plum Tree, 40-42 Regent Street, Swindon
